Lisa Goesling microscopically examines nature and abstracts, creating hyper-detailed renderings of her observations. Lisa’s first recollection of selling her art was at five years old, selling handmade coloring books from a small table outside of her house. The neighborhood kids would line up to purchase them and she’d run back inside and make more. Ms. Goesling began taking weekend classes at twelve, studying drawing, painting and sculpture at SAIC. Lisa majored in Graphic Design while in college and worked in Publishing, Advertising and Graphic Design before devoting all her time to creating art after a 2006 Cancer Diagnosis.
She was determined to find a safe medium with low toxicity and discovered Scratchbords® by Ampersand. She was hooked from the moment she dragged her X-ACTO knife into the layers of white clay and India ink, suddenly her fine lines appeared like magic. The detailed mark making transported her to someplace wonderful and she continues to go there every time she creates.
Lisa’s innate ability to notice the most minute details is translated into her meticulous art. She has won prestigious awards, residencies and fellowships and exhibits throughout the country. Her art is in private collections across the world.
Ms. Goesling divides her time between three different sensibilities, all fueled by her desire to dig deeper.
ECO-PSYCHOLOGY (the study of emotional connections between humans and the natural world), have a loftier purpose than simply representing nature. An intimate bond forms between the viewer and her intricate art, creating profound feelings of being transported to a better place, reminding us of the infinite power of beauty.
INTERACTION creates connections through loosely drawn characters that transcend race and ethnicity as they interact across the page. These drawing have been ‘coming out’ of me since I was about five years old. They are a collaboration between my art and those who interact with it.
SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION drawings are inspired by nature and filled with detailed textures and patterns that evolve into complex designs. Every time you look at this collection you find something new.
